Moncenisio - 2020

Writer's picture: Davide DimacDavide Dimac

Cycling tour from Grugliasco to the lake of Moncenisio. The morning started well, without the excessive heat of the past days. But, entering in Val Susa, the sky was completely full of black clouds. Although it didn't rain at all during the tour.

Very variable weather over Susa. Even without sunshine, the first part of the climb (up to Molaretto) was quite sweaty due to the high humidity. Many motorcycles and cars on the road, all along the ascent.

Passed Bar Cenisio, the road reached the altitude of low clouds. Sky completely covered and visibility of the surrounding mountains totally absent.

Arrived at Plan des Fontainettes, had lunch with sandwiches on the lawn in front of the (pyramid) church and sunbathed. The sky unfortunately got cloudy quickly, and soon the fog arrived due to humidity. Even the lake view has been covered by the fog.

In the first part of the downhill I had to turn on the rear light, because of the very low visibility (could barely see the road). Quite low temperature during the descent, several layers of clothing required.

Total Length = 140.0 Km

Maximum Altitude = 2091 m

Temperature (°C) = 11.6 - 23.3

Felt Temperature (°C) = 12.0 - 24.0
