Chiaves - 2021

Writer's picture: Davide DimacDavide Dimac

Cycling tour from Grugliasco to Chiaves. Very sunny day, alternating with scattered clouds near Lanzo. Lots of cyclists around, no cars encountered.

Regarding to the ascent from Lanzo, the first section is very easy and fast. With several stretches to catch breath and recover. Going uphill the temperature dropped a little with every kilometre done. From the small village of Scioldi onwards, the last part of the climb starts harder. So it's good to save energy before and approach it at a regular rhythm.

In Chiaves the weather was quite cloudy and a cold wind lowered the temperature even further. Rested at the church of S. Anastasia and Giovanni Evangelista, which dominates the village from the top of the hill.

Downhill wearing several layers because of the perceived cold temperature. Return at full speed.

Total Length = 91.1 Km

Maximum Altitude = 1045 m

Temperature (°C) = 13.9 - 16.5

Felt Temperature (°C) = 13.9 - 16.0

Timing =

  • Grugliasco-Lanzo: 1h 26m

  • Lanzo-Chiaves: 42m

  • Break at Chiaves: 28m

  • Return (by Gisola/Praile/Lanzo and then same route): 1h 35m
