Aquila - 2021

Writer's picture: Davide DimacDavide Dimac

Cycling tour from Grugliasco to Aquila. Hot day, almost a summer one. A little wind but the sun was strong and raised the temperature. Some cars in the towns along the route, then from Buttigliera Alta onwards very few. Lots of cyclists around and more than cars: weekend cyclists like myself, families, young people, etc...

The road towards Giaveno was done as usual at a constant rhythm, without pushing and conserving stamina. In Giaveno, quick stop to eat an energy bar (the fountain was unfortunately still switched off).

Climb from Pontepietra approached slowly, trying to save energy with constant speed in the first part up to Borgata Rul. Then a wall to climb, using the most agile rear-gear of the bike (which wasn't enough) and going in zig-zags. Climbed slowly but steadily up to Pra Fieul and beyond.

Turn after turn arrived at the top. Sitting on one of the benches in the square, resting under the sun and eating a snack. Unfortunately the fountain of the restaurant was closed. Quick descent back to Giaveno and return home along the usual road. The weather remained nice and warm all afternoon.
